Alexsis Rodgers is a civic leader, organizer, policy director and champion for proactive and progressive leadership. For the past eight years, Alexsis has been on the front lines advocating for economic security, voting rights, college affordability and quality health care.
She currently is the Virginia state director for Care in Action, the policy and advocacy home for two million women domestic workers. This year in particular, she led the way in making Virginia the first Southern state to pass labor protections for domestic workers, including nannies, cleaners and home healthcare workers.
Previously, Alexsis served as Director of Communications at the Virginia League of Planned Parenthood and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, where she played a key role in achieving Medicaid expansion and increasing birth control access.
Alexsis knows how to work inside and outside of the system: as Policy Director for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, she shaped the legislative agenda to place particular emphasis on reproductive justice, behavioral health, and early childhood education.
Outside of her communications and policy work, Alexsis is the Board Chair of Emerge Virginia, a non-profit organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office.
Alexsis is also the former President of the Virginia Young Democrats, where she led the 3,000-member youth organization’s electoral, advocacy, and leadership development program, including campus voter protection efforts.
Alexsis lives in the Fan and is a VCU grad and avid Rams basketball fan.

Alexsis has a track record of bringing people together to advance policies for our most vulnerable community members. As mayor, she will steward collaborative relationships with residents, workers, students, business leaders and government leaders to make sure Richmond works for all of us.
Alexsis will work to keep Richmond safe by reducing the scale and scope of policing and reinvesting in community resources for public education, after-school programs and mental health services.
Alexsis will be a leader in the fight to fully fund our schools and will pursue innovative partnerships within city government and with community partners to address inequities in public education.
Alexsis will prioritize access to safe outdoor space to advance public health, quality of life and environmental justice in every Richmond neighborhood.
Alexsis will prioritize access to clean, safe and affordable housing for every Richmond resident and support programs that promote economically-diverse communities and reduce displacement.
Alexsis will make sure city government is accountable to the people by including community stakeholders at the decision-making table and supporting efforts to increase data transparency.
